On Monday, November 17th, the Newmarket Hurricanes travelled all the way to the town of Cobourg to play against the Cobourg Cougars. The final score of this hard played game was Newmarket 2, Cobourg 1. The scratches for this evening were PJ Buys, Julian Melchiori, Luke Maw, and Bennet MacNeil.
Not much happened in the first period. Both teams were playing smart hockey, not giving eachother chances to score. Newmarket and Cobourg both played physical giving good hits. Jimmy Sarjeant played well in the first period making 18 saves. With less than a minute left in the first, Justin Hogan puts one in to give the Canes a 1 - 0 lead going into the second.
Newmarket continued to play good hockey. Unfortunately, the Canes got caught up in some penalty trouble, and Cobourg took advantage of the powerplay, scoring a goal to tie the game at one a piece.
In the third period, both teams were playing like they really wanted the win. The Canes were getting some good scoring chances, and Cobourg was also getting their chances, but Jimmy Sarjeant made key saves to keep the game tied. Daniel Zweep played physical giving hard open ice hits whenever he got the chance. It was scoreless in the third, and the game needed to go into overtime.
The Canes were fortunate enough to go on the powerplay in overtime. 2:16 into OT, Joel Hanley took a slapshot from the point and scored the game winner to give the Hurricanes their second consecutive win.
Jimmy Sarjeant played well in net making 44 saves to keep Newmarket in the game, and take the win. The Canes play this Thursday, November 20th, when they play against the St. Michael's Majors at 7:35pm.
